By PSCU

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday hosted the triumphant Kenya Sevens Rugby national team at State House, Nairobi.

The Shujaa, who returned from Singapore on Tuesday, won the eighth round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in a dramatic fashion, beating Fiji 30-7 to clinch the historic Cup title.

The team captain Andrew Amonde handed over the trophy they won in Singapore to President Kenyatta in a colourful ceremony witnessed by other players, their officials and Sport Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario.

Speaking during the occasion, the President announced a sh10 million government token of appreciation to the team, assuring them that all their outstanding dues from sponsors will be cleared.

“You have done Kenya proud by lifting the Singapore 7s trophy and the Government will follow-up all pledges from sponsors. On behalf of the millions of Kenyans who watched the dramatic win from home and abroad, I say thank you,” he added.

On the Anti-Doping Bill passed by Parliament, President Kenyatta said he would be signing it into law on Friday to beat the deadline by the World Anti-Doping Agency and make the country complaint with the World Anti-Doping Code.

Enactment of the Bill makes doping a crime in Kenya and was a key requirement by Wada for Kenya to participate in the August Rio De Janiero Olympics.

He told the team to train without worry assuring them of total government support as they prepare to represent the country in the Olympic Games.

CA sounds alert on fake software

The telecommunications sector watchdog has warned companies and individual Internet users from buying fake software, saying it now offers hackers the most common loophole for executing cyber-attacks. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), through the National Computer Incident Response Team Co-ordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC), warned on Thursday that cybercriminals have changed tack and are now using third-party software to deliver threats to unsuspecting users in an attempt to compromise and steal their personal data. “Though Kenya has not been adversely affected by such attacks as at now, the trend depicts a serious concern in cybercrime management and thus a precaution should be taken when dealing with outsourced products and personnel,” said acting CA director- general Christopher Kemei in a statement. Kenyan businesses lose billions of shillings and troves of sensitive information to hackers every year. SOURCE
