Kenyan Government Rooting for online jobs to solve unemployment

ICT CS Joe Mucheru

Online jobs are the best solution for Kenya's high unemployment rate, a Cabinet Secretary has said. Information Communication Technology Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru said Kenya's investment in expanding its capacity in the technology sector is slowly giving rise to opportunities for the over two million unemployed youth."As a government together with other partners we are always there as an equal partner. Technology and innovation are the right ingredients to help us leap frog to the next level," said Mucheru.

Mucheru further noted that from a survey carried out among 25,000 youth on digital online jobs, 60 per cent of their earnings were spent to further their education. "This is clear evidence that we must embrace digital innovations or else our future generations will be left out on a lot of opportunities," said Mucheru. Mucheru said that part of the frameworks put in place by the government in advocating for online jobs is to converge capacities of the East African nation:

"Currently our regional markets are so fragmented hence difficult for many to benefit from the opportunities." The CS was speaking during a stakeholder's forum organised by the University of Nairobi ahead of the Nairobi Innovation week scheduled for August 1-5. UoN Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi noted that the event will give opportunities to young startups with an aim to unleash potentials of innovators through practical skills. "We shall also be seeking to commercialise our research proposals and make this event an opportunity to revise our curriculum to align it with the ever changing market needs," said Mbithi.

ICT CS called open financial institutions to open their doors and invest in the potential businesses: "These innovations need to be funded. If they are left on the runway they will enter the market half-baked and there will be no value addition." Standard Group, Barclays Bank, Equity Bank, Ministry of Education, Ministry of ICT and the Israel government are some of the sponsors of the event. Over 1,500 delegates are scheduled to attend and it will run under the theme 'partnerships for innovations that truly impact people and societies.

There is no regret in Obedience

It’s a guarantee your life will never be the same again when you obey God. God is our CREATOR and our DIRECTOR meaning he knows the best way for our lives since he loves us, our role is to simply OBEY Him. Obedience is everything when we are relating to God. Obedience is the KEY ingredient in the kingdom of God. God is always ready to manifest himself in our lives when we obey Him and his word(John 14:23 Jesus Replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” Like 5:5 Simon Peter an experienced fisherman with a fishing business had toiled the whole night without any catch of fish and he was frustrated and tired and he was washing his nets UNTIL Jesus told him to Launch out into the deep again. Peter had a CHOICE to say YES or NO but he choose to OBEY and he said: “Nevertheless AT THY WORD I WILL LET DOWN THE NET”. The moment he chooses to obey instead of Questioning, Analyzing and trying ...

NJOKI CHEGE on Shisha girls

Twenty years ago, women used to cook like their mothers. Today, they smoke like their fathers. There are fewer things more disgusting than a woman who smokes. And I’m not talking about cigarettes. My beef is with women who smoke shisha. Shisha girls are undesirable, rough and have completely lost respect for themselves. There are two types of shisha girls: the eastlando and the so-called upmarket ones. The eastlando types use cheap perfumes costing Sh350 and buy high heels from Toi Market and Bus Station. They text random men on Fridays “Leo turn up iko wapi, baby?” because they need a man to buy them a pot of shisha. They are happy to go to Club Cubano but will never forget you if you upgrade them to Mojos. They wear their plastic weaves long and coarse, the ones you comb until the scalp protests. The polish on their nails — mostly blue — is chipped and their lipstick ghetto; the ones bought at Moi Avenue for Sh200. Their dreadlocks — if they happen to have them...

CA sounds alert on fake software

The telecommunications sector watchdog has warned companies and individual Internet users from buying fake software, saying it now offers hackers the most common loophole for executing cyber-attacks. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), through the National Computer Incident Response Team Co-ordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC), warned on Thursday that cybercriminals have changed tack and are now using third-party software to deliver threats to unsuspecting users in an attempt to compromise and steal their personal data. “Though Kenya has not been adversely affected by such attacks as at now, the trend depicts a serious concern in cybercrime management and thus a precaution should be taken when dealing with outsourced products and personnel,” said acting CA director- general Christopher Kemei in a statement. Kenyan businesses lose billions of shillings and troves of sensitive information to hackers every year. SOURCE
