DP William Ruto gives Sh17m in two months...

BY STAR REPORTER

Deputy President William Ruto has given out at least Sh17 million in harambees in 76 days alone – excluding contributions from his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Star has monitored Ruto's fundraisers across the country since September 13, as questions emerge about the DP's source of funds.

According to a March 1, 2013 Kenya Gazette notice, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission pegged the salary of a deputy president at Sh1,402,500, before tax.

This was before Ruto and Uhuru announced a 20 per cent salary cut, further reducing the DP's monthly salary.

This last weekend, Ruto was in Meru, where he gave a total of Sh3 million both at Laare Catholic Church and in Mikinduri Parish.

However, Sh1 million was said to have come from President Kenyatta.

Last weekend Ruto also contributed a total of Sh3 million in different parts of the country.

On Friday the 20th, the DP contributed Sh1 million during a funds drive in aid of the Kipkelion West Women’s Empowerment Organisation at Chilchila Secondary School, Kericho.

On Saturday the 21st, the DP flew to Kuria, Migori, where he again opened his purse and gave out another Sh1 million.

On Sunday, Ruto traversed parts of Western Kenya, accompanied by several leaders, where he again gave another Sh1 million, for the Webuye West Maendeleo ya Wanawake Group.

However, Ruto's weekend expenditure could be much more, as he travels in hired choppers.

Last week, Cord leaders asked President Kenyatta to commission a lifestyle audit of the DP if he is serious about the war on corruption.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said the government needs thorough financial surveillance of top Jubilee leaders, claiming their big money harambees are suspect.

“How can anyone spend Sh25-30 million on harambees every week? Even if you are Barclays Bank or KCB, you don't spend money like that,” claimed Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula.

Previously, a defiant Ruto has used the Bible to respond to critics, saying, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”.

“I find many people struggling to fathom why they should give and it’s because they have not understood the secret of giving to God,” Ruto said in response to Cord chief Raila Odinga.

On October 6, Ruto gave a total of Sh1 million for the funeral of Masinde Muliro's widow, Mercia Muliro.

Sh500,000 was reportedly a contribution from President Kenyatta.

Ruto contributed Sh1.5 million to the cash-strapped AFC Leopards on October 1.

On November 8, he gave Sh2 million during a fundraiser for the new ACK church in Kapsabet Diocese, and announced that Sh1 million was a donation from the President.

On September 27, Ruto gave a total of Sh1 million to the PCEA Church Bahati, Nairobi.

The day before, in Tipet Primary School, Kapenguria constituency, the DP contributed Sh1 million and pledged another Sh5 million for the construction of a boys’ dormitory at the school.

On September 12, Ruto contributed Sh2.5 million for 410 women’s groups from Kitui.

The next day, he flew to Kakamega and gave Sh1 million to Mung’ang’a ACK church

11 Habits You Need to Stop Doing

Stop watching too much TV If you spend too much time watching TV, you are wasting your life away. I feel really strongly about this one. I don’t have cable, and while I do watch some shows on Netflix, it’s few and far between. I only watch TV after I really am relaxed and need a break. I’m also careful not to turn on the TV right when I get home. I find that if I do this, I’m sucked in. This is why I keep my reading list and focus on reading good books instead. So, start to pay attention to how much TV you’re watching. If you think it’s too much, cut back. Limit your TV intake to 30 minutes to 1 hour per day, if possible. Stop talking about people behind their backs Talking about someone behind her back is a bad idea for a number of reasons. First, if someone is talking to you behind someone else’s back, you can bet on it that they also will talk about you. Second, did you know that when you talk about someone negatively, the person who you’re talking to will associate yo...

How to Stop Porn Addiction

Don't be judgmental. The first thing you should do when trying to help other people stay away from porn is to stop being judgmental. Do not see or portray the situation in a way that makes them bad for what they do. Sexuality is very normal and human. Even most religions teach that it is not anyone’s place to judge their fellow man (but is instead the job of the Creator). It’s also bad to judge people because it tends to turn them off from what you’re trying to do. Many people that might be open to change will become defensive if you judge them and become even more set in their ways. Stay calm when you talk to them and avoid any judgmental language like “Why can’t you be more like Davis ?” or “Watching pornography will turn you into a pedophile!”. Don’t make assumptions about how they think or compare them to other people, since language like this tends to shut people down. Look for spiritual guidance. If you’re really having trouble getting your habit under control, you ...
